Two fresh pinup publications for my 50th birthday: Atomic Beauties “Bathing Cuties” special issue and this month’s Bombshell!

For my big birthday, Marilee Caruso and I shot a couple of cute sets at our favorite mid century central-coast California hotel. We created some cute 1960s-inspired images in our suite’s pink bathroom and some glamour-gown photos in the main areas of the room.

The room, like all the suites at the hotel, has a name – “Old Fashioned Honeymoon” – and features decor based firmly in the nostalgic Victorian craze of the late 1960s and early 1970s.

The pink bathroom shots – which found a home in this month’s “Bathing Cuties” special edition by Atomic Beauties magazine – are probably my favorite. I found a 60s-ish pink babydoll set at Adoreme with a giant pink satin bow at the bust and bought a pink velvet bow from Vixen by Micheline Pitt to match.

A Regency costume picnic for Jane Austen’s 250th birthday

Back in May, my friend Elizabeth and I attended the Greater Bay Area Costumers’ Guild picnic in honor of Jane Austen’s 250th birthday! Austen’s my favorite writer (my pinup name is an allusion to the heroine of Northanger Abbey), and I really like Regency historic fashions, so of course we had to go!

Like the Persuasion event our group sponsored three years ago in honor of Austen’s novel, this picnic took place at McNears Beach in San Rafael. The park at McNears is the former site of a 19th century bayside resort, so the views are lovely and there are a lot of weird old palms dotted picturesquely throughout the lawn areas.

Blue Velvet cosplay images in Atomic Beauties David Lynch special edition!

I’m proud to announce that my Dorothy Vallens cosplay images, inspired by the David Lynch film Blue Velvet, appear in the new Atomic Beauties David Lynch memorial special edition! We even got a cover!

The photos, makeup, wig styling, and lighting are all by the fabulous Marilee Caruso! Fittingly, Isabella Rossellini wore a similar wig during production, so I think we really could not have done better in replicating Dorothy’s big 80s performance hair.

I put together the outfit, featuring the Golden Era gown from Vixen by Micheline Pitt and vintage 1980s earrings that are a pretty close match to the ones worn by Isabella as Dorothy in the movie.

I’m super-happy with how these photos turned out!

Samantha White did the amazing makeup while NM Beautybar did the superlative hair. Sam suggested I looked like Martha May Whovier of live-action Grinch film fame, and I’ll take it! 😉

Love Witch set with Lavinia Laced in Pinup Nouveau’s Halloween Volume 1

My friend Lavinia Laced and I co-produced a Love Witch-themed shoot with Marilee Caruso, and the results are in Pinup Nouveau magazine’s Halloween issue, Volume 1!  We even got a cover!

Both of us are big fans of Anna Biller’s 2016 horror-comedy film, The Love Witch, so naturally we wanted to portray our own versions of the titular “love witch” from the movie – Elaine. We collected our spell-casting props and planned wardrobe while Marilee put together a great set reminiscent of Elaine’s apartment in the film.

Marilee’s amazing late-1960’s-inspired makeup and hair work incorporated both of Elaine’s eyeshadow looks – vintage turquoise blue for Lavinia and purple for me! In all, I think the three of us captured the bright, saturated technicolor look of the movie, which is visually reminiscent of the colorful Hammer Horror films of the 1950s and 1960s.

As always, you can order this issue and all of my other publications via my Linktree.

Laura Palmer Twin Peaks cosplay images in Retro Lovely Masquerade

Marilee Caruso and I shot some fun Black Lodge-themed cosplay images earlier this year, featuring me as Laura Palmer from David Lynch’s and Mark Frost’s quirky Twin Peaks TV show. We went for a slightly 1930s-1940s Laura as the show is known for its frequent retro visual callbacks, and – as I was 48 at the time the photos were shot – an older Laura, which is more in line with the third season of the show. The final season aired in 2017, featuring versions of all the characters aged 25 years from their original appearance during the early-90s run of the show.
