Sin in Linen: Bed, bath, and kitchen decor for the vintage enthusiast!

Not long ago I got a very pleasant note from the people who run Sin in Linen, a Seattle-based home textiles company inspired by vintage, pinup, rockabilly, punk, tattoo, gothic, and related aesthetics. Since 2004, owner Sandy Glaze has offered bedding, kitchen goods, and bathroom decor suiting a variety of alternative tastes.

From their main line, you can choose sheet sets, duvet covers, curtains, baby bedding, aprons, oven mitts, and other useful home items in a variety of exclusive fabrics. They kindly sent me one of their signature kitchen aprons and an oven mitt and potholder set in the mid-century modern-inspired “Atomic Dreams” print, a fabric specially designed for them by artist Ragnar of Ragnarama.

The print is fabulously midmod, with Sputniky-y starbursts and swoopy geometric shapes resembling leaves, vases, and frames presented in a cheerful palette of yellow, cool browns, and icy blue-gray. If your home decorating scheme is neutral, kitschy, or mid-century modern, chances are this print will work fabulously somewhere in your place.

The apron is adorable, including just the right mix of cute and useful. It provides enough coverage to guard your holiday dresses from errant gravy without ruining the look of your outfit, while the double flounce at the bottom, the pocket with a cute cream-colored bow, and the ties at the waist and neck add to the beauty and practicality of the piece. The cotton fabric is lightweight without being flimsy, and totally washable.

The oven mitt is nice and big, and the potholder is the right size to help you grab some hot Pyrex without burning the crap out of your hand. The potholder also has a handy pocket for your fingers, a safeguard against slippage and spillage.

In all, the pieces are well-made and attractive, making great Christmas presents. The apron and oven mitt/potholder set would be a perfect hostess gift any time of year!

Thanks very much to Iris and Sandy for providing this set for review. I’m excited to try some of the bedding and bathroom items in Atomic Dreams and the pinup prints!
